Chief Adviser Prof Mohammad Yunus once again reiterated his firm stance on holding the 13th parliamentary election by December of the current year, while addressing an international forum on Thursday.
“The national election could be held by December after implementation of the July Charter based on the recommendations of the National Consensus Commission,” he said while addressing the World Government Summit (WGS) being held in Dubai, the UAE.
Earlier, on 10 February, the chief adviser, during a meeting with a BNP delegation, assured that the interim government is working towards holding parliamentary elections by December.
The Chief Adviser made the statement before heads of 30 states and governments, 140 delegations, 400 ministers, and 6,000 participants from across the world, at a time when BNP and Jamaat remain at odds over whether reforms or elections should come first.
While addressing the WGS, Yunus said that his government has formed reform commissions in some sectors and they have already put forward their recommendations to rebuild the country upholding the spirit of the July-August mass upsurge.
“We will draft a charter based on the recommendations put forward by the political parties, and thereafter, we will hold the national election following the implementation of those recommendations,” he said.
Prof Yunus reached Dubai on Wednesday night to take part in the WGS where Minister of Sports of the United Arab Emirates Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi received him.
