The government has written for deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s repatriation in light of the existing extradition treaty but India did not respond, Mohammad Rafiqul Alam, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on Thursday.
“We sent a letter with necessary documents seeking the repatriation of Sheikh Hasina, but we didn’t get any answer from India. However, the foreign ministry expects an answer,” he said while talking to reporters in Dhaka.
Sheikh Hasina fled the country and took shelter in India on 5 August in the face of a student-led mass upsurge.
Meanwhile, the OHCHR fact-finding team released a report on human rights violations in Bangladesh from Geneva on Wednesday that ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina responsible for the July-August mass killing.
Several cases were lodged by different government agencies showing Sheikh Hasina as the prime accused in connection with the mass killing.
Earlier while addressing a press conference recently, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul said that the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) will deliver its judgment against defeated autocrat Sheikh Hasina and top leaders of the ousted Awami League for their involvement in the July genocide cases by October this year.
Besides, in a bid to bring Sheikh Hasina to book for justice, the government has written to India several times to send her back but the neighbouring country did not put its heed to the matter.
