Interim govt working to protect human rights: Adilur

Staff Reporter:

Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan yesterday said the present government is working to pro-tect human rights as the previous fascist Awami League (AL) government had ruined it.
“The interim government has started working to ensure freedom of the people alongside establish-ing human rights. So, the government has started working to bring reforms to various sectors that include police, administration and the judiciary,” he said.
The Industries Adviser said that the law enforcement agencies must work keeping in mind ‘funda-mental human rights principles’ and the courts must be truly effective.
He made the remarks while addressing a workshop on “Implementing the law emphasising human rights and the environment in the changing situation of the country” at Bangladesh Police Audito-rium at Rajarbagh.
The Industries Adviser said hundreds of people have become victims of the enforced disappearanc-es and extrajudicial killings during the tenure of the previous fascist government.
“Along with the administration and judicial system, the state structure was used to establish the fascist regime,” he remarked.
He recalled the contribution of the student-people alongside the political and human rights activ-ists in The July Revolution and that dislodged the fascist Awami League government.
Home Adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd) spoke at the workshop as the chief guest.
Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul also addressed the workshop presided over by Senior Home Secretary Nasimul Ghani.
Judges of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court, Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Court, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court and District and Sessions Judge Court, district magistrates, Special Court judges, government lawyers, members of law enforcement agencies and members of intelligence agencies took part in the workshop.
