A 13-year-old teenage girl has reportedly been gang raped and died in city’s Dakkhin Khan area.
Police also arrested two people in this connection, said Muhammad Talebur Rahman, DC (media) of DMP on Monday.
The arrestees were identified as Robin Hossain, 32 and Rabbi Mridha, 26.
According to police, the girl, a class VIII student of a local school went missing after she had gone out from his residence around 2:30 pm on January 16.
A general diary was lodged with Dakkhin Khan Police Station on January 19.
With the help of local people, it is known that some miscreants picked up the girl in a microbus from in front of Joynal Market and left the place on January 16.
On January 27, an abduction case was filed in this connection.
On January 30, police arrested Robin and Rabbi from Sripur area of Gazipur district.
A court placed them on a two-day remand when police produced the two arrestees before the court on January 31.
Following interrogation, police recovered the body of the girl from Hatirjheel area on Sunday morning.
The arrestees made confessional statements under section 164.
According to the confessional statement of them, they took the girl to a residence in Mohakhali where five people violated the girl in turns after tying her hands, legs and mouth with cloth.
During rape, the girl died.
Later, they dumped the body in Hatirjheel after keeping it inside a sack.
Police are trying to arrest the others involved in the crime.
