Tongi (Gazipur): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam yesterday said they have brought the Ijtema ground at Tongi in Gazipur under tight security measures ahead of the Biswa Ijtema to be held in three phases from January 31 (Friday).
“Considering the overall situation, the security arrangements at Ijtema Maidan have been strengthened much more than before,” he said while briefing journalists after inspecting the secu-rity arrangements at Bishwa Ijtema Maidan in here.
The police chief said the force is capable of dealing with any kind of sabotage with the cooperation of everyone including the media.
In reply to a question, he said, “We are hopeful that both the organizers will hold the Ijtema peace-fully with great responsibility.”
The IGP hoped that with the collective efforts of everyone, the Ijtema will be conducted in a safe and peaceful manner.
Required police personnel have been entrusted with ensuring security of the Ijtema Maidan and the surrounding areas, he said.
There will be a bomb disposal unit, SWAT team, dog squad, explosives team, crime scene van, theft, robbery and pickpocket prevention team and naval patrol to make the security foolproof.
In addition, the Ijtema Maidan has been brought under CCTV coverage. The security system of the entire Ijtema Maidan has been strengthened through drones and watch towers.
Special security measures have also been taken at the railway stations.
At this time, Additional IG (Crime and Operations) Md. Akram Hossain, Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan and other senior police officers, Tabligh leaders were present.
