The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) yesterday stayed the High Court (HC) order that de-clared ‘Joy Bangla’ as the national slogan of Bangladesh.
A four-member apex court bench, headed by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, passed the order grant-ing a leave to appeal petition filed by the state in this regard. Additional Attorney General Aneek Rushd Haque took part in the hearing for the state.
The state on December 2 filed the plea with the concerned wing of the Appellate Division. On March 10, 2020, the High Court passed the order declaring ‘Joy Bangla’ as the national slogan of the country.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order declaring absolute a rule issued earlier in this regard.
