Staff Reporter:

A battery-run auto-rickshaw was apparently crushed in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in city’s Paltan area early yesterday, killing a rickshaw passenger and injuring its puller.
Police identified the deceased as Zakir Hossain, aged 60, an official of the Mercantile Bank.
Police and witnesses said the accident took place around 5:00am in the area when the rickshaw was sandwiched in the collision between a bus of Unique Paribahan and an onion-laden truck.
Rickshaw passenger Zakir died on the spot while the rickshaw driver suffered injuries and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
