“On the 48th death anniversary of the Majlum Jananeta Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, I pay my deepest respect to his memory,” the President said in a message.
Shahabuddin said, Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani was a shining star of Indian subcontinent poli-tics.
“His political career began in 1919 by joining the anti-British non-cooperation and Khilafat movement. He did politics to establish the rights of the hardworking people, farmers-laborers and common people,” he added.
Bhasani played a unique role in uniting the people against the injustice and oppression of the colonial rulers, said Shahabuddin, adding that he was thrown in jail for protesting police firing on students in the language movement of 1952.
Bhasani also had an unforgettable contribution in the struggle for freedom in the country, he said, add-ing that Bhasani in his long political career, worked selflessly for the country and the people.
Maulana Bhasani always prioritized national interest, the president said.
“For his deep love for the country, people used to call him Majlum Jana Neta,” he added.
