Tenant, not son, behind Bogura housewife murder

Staff Reporter:

A female tenant and not her son killed Umme Salma, 50, by dumping the landlady inside a deep fridge at her house in Dupchapiya upzila of Bogura on Sunday, police confirmed Friday.

The new twist in the murder case unofficially relieves Salma’s son Saad, 19, from humiliation, even though netizens had already widely condemned him for allegedly murdering his own mother.

On Tuesday, two days after the heinous crime RAB-12 members arrested Saad for questioning and later said the teenager had confessed to committing the crime.

But, he is innocent and the blame rests on their tenant Mabia Akter, said Bogura District Police Spokesperson Additional Police Superintendent Suman Ranjan Sarker.

Mabia and her two male associates have provided details of their heinous crime to police and also given additional information, based on which police have recovered the items used in the murder and the goods stolen from the house.

However, police are continuing their investigation to unearth the full extent of the incident, Suman Ranjan Sarker told reporters.

As per Mabia’s confession, Salma and her husband Azizur Rahman have been pushing Mabia for over a month to end the tenancy contract and leave their house after learning of her involvement in narcotics trade.

Mabia also owed two months’ rent to her landlords.

At one point, the female drug peddler lost her patience over Salma pushing her and decided to murder her with support from her criminal associates.

Mabia and her two male associates Suman Chandra and Moslem planned the murder on Saturday.

The next day, Mabia cunningly allowed her associates to enter the house and apply sedatives on Salma. As Salma lost her consciousness, the three criminals taped up the landlady’s mouth and nose before tying her hand and feet. Afterwards, they dumped the suffocating unconscious lady into the deep fridge of the house, and promptly left the house.
