Asif Nazrul says govt to urge Interpol to arrest fugitives including Hasina

Staff Reporter:

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul yesterday said the government would request INTERPOL to issue red notices to arrest and bring back fugitives, including Sheikh Hasina, ac-cused of involving in the killings and genocide committed during the student-led mass-uprising in July and August.
“The step to issue the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) red notice will be taken soon,” he said while talking to newsmen after inspecting renovation works of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) building in the capital yesterday morning.
Replying to a question on an alleged petition filed at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague against individuals, including the Chief Adviser, the law adviser said the plea was filed to mislead the global opinion.
“The government is not taking the Awami League’s complaint to the ICC into account; the legal advisor said that the Awami League has filed the complaint against the government to undermine the country’s dignity. There is no reason for the complaint to be accepted in any way,” he added.
“Moreover, this is not a case; it is just a written petition for the ICC prosecution office. Any person can do that.
It is such an elievable and pointless complaint that there is no reason for it to be turned into a writ. The fascist quarter filed that to mislead the global opinion and confuse the country’s people,” Dr Asif Nazrul further said.
Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam said steps will be taken to bring Awami League to justice as a party if the government gives direction in this regard.
