Bangladesh’s interim government, under the leadership of Prof Muhammad Yunus, has extended its congratulations to Donald Trump on his election as the 47th president of the United States, expressing optimism for strengthened bilateral ties and future cooperation.
“We welcome this (his win). We hope Bangladesh-US relations will be deepened and relations will reach a new height,” Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam told reporters at a media briefing at the Foreign Service Academy on Wednesday evening.
Responding to a question on Trump’s remarks on Bangladesh recently, Alam said he was probably misinformed.
Deputy Press Secretaries Apurba Jahangir and Abul Kalam Azad Majumder were also present at the briefing.
Trump’s win is seen as an extraordinary comeback for a former president who refused to accept defeat four years ago, sparked a violent insurrection at the US Capitol, was convicted of felony charges and survived two assassination attempts.
