Massive traffic congestion grips Dhaka city

Staff Reporter:

Intense traffic congestion has gripped Dhaka City on Tuesday.
As the day advanced, traffic continued to worsen, causing significant delays, especially for commuters traveling from the Parliament to Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, and Bangla Motor.
From early morning, thousands of Islamic devotees from across the country gathered at Suhrawardy Udyan to attend a rally organized by Ulama Mashayekh Bangladesh. Many travelled by bus from outside Dhaka, and the vehicles have been parked on the roads.
Afzal, a bus driver from Gabtoli, described the extent of the delays, saying, “It took me an hour to get from Asad Avenue to Bangla Motor, whereas this route usually takes only 20 minutes.”
A senior official from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police said that a large number of vehicles have entered Dhaka from outside the city and are parked in various locations, which has led to traffic congestion spreading throughout the city.
