Staff Reporter:
Police have filed a case alleging at least 500 unnamed garment workers over the clash between workers and law enforcers in the capital’s Mirpur area on Thursday.
Kafrul Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kazi Golam Mostafa confirmed the case filing on Friday.
On Thursday, at Mirpur-14 area a group of workers blocked the main road in protest against a roadside signboard saying, “no salary, if workers observe work abstention.”
The army and police chased them to ease the blockade. But soon afterwards, hundreds of other workers poured out of their factories to protest against alleged killings of colleagues. A battle soon erupted lasting three hours, before law enforcers finally managed to bring the situation under control.
Two vehicles of law enforcers were torched in the incident, while two garment workers sustained bullet injuries.
