Adani Power halves power supply amid persistent dues

Staff Reporter:

Indian power company Adani Power nearly halved its power supply to Bangladesh on Thursday amid non-payment of dues despite repeated requests.

Bangladesh owes the company over Tk10,000 crore. Earlier, in a letter, the company had warned it might be forced to stop supplies from Thursday, if its dues stay unpaid.

As of Wednesday, the company supplied over 1,000-megawatt power every day, but on Thursday it supplied only 530-megawatt from its Godda coal-fired power plant in India’s Jharkhand state, according to company sources.

The company if struggling to continue operations amid shortage of coal supplies and payments owed to operating and maintenance contractors.
