The Army personnel on Monday arrested and detained 22 more alleged terrorists, robbers and crim-inals from Dhaka Udyan, Chand Udyan and Geneva Camp for their alleged involvement in differ-ent criminal activities.
Earlier, on Saturday, in a joint operation led by members of the army, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-2) and police also detained 45 individuals in connection with a series of factional clashes, extortions and robberies in Mohammadpur area.
“A total of 22 snatchers, robbers, extortionists and members of juvenile gang were arrested from Dhaka Udyan, Chand Udyan and Geneva Camp yesterday,” said a release of Inter-Service of public Relations (ISPR) yesterday.
Of the arrestees, two are top drug dealers, 10 snatchers, and seven others are juvenile gang mem-bers. They were handed over to the concerned police stations for legal action.
After the fall of the Awami League government, Mohammadpur area has become one of the most crime-prone areas in the capital, with incidents of gunfire, robbery, theft, and armed assaults be-coming a daily occurrence.
In the last month alone, at least three individuals have been killed in shootouts while several oth-ers have sustained bullet injuries due to clashes over drug peddling.
Meanwhile, a video footage of armed individuals robbing a mini supermarket in Basila circulated on social media on Friday night frustrating the city dwellers as well.
This operation is being conducted as a part of regular patrolling and operations by the joint forces assigned areas under ‘In Aid to Civil Power’ to implement the directives of the current interim gov-ernment, the release added.
