Joint forces detain 45 persons from Mohammadpur

The joint forces led by Bangladesh Army have detained 45 individuals following some untoward incidents, including a series of clashes, extortions and robberies in the capital’s Mohammadpur area.
“A total of 45 members of robbers, extortionists and juvenile gangs were arrested from Dhaka Udyan, Chand Udyan and Navodaya Housing in Mohammadpur area in a joint operation led by the army personnel, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-2) and police,” a release of Inter-Services Public Re-lations (ISPR) said yesterday.
Bangladesh Army is working with impartiality and professionalism in the prevailing situation of the country with an aim of preventing extrajudicial activities and maintaining the rule of law, as well as controlling the overall security and law and order situation of public life and important government facilities.
The operation of the joint forces was conducted in a well-planned manner with the aim of bringing relief to the lives of the inhabitants of Mohammadpur who were going through a sense of insecuri-ty in recent time, it said.
During the operation, 45 alleged criminals were arrested with nine domestic sharp weapons from Mohammadpur area last night, the release added.
It is mentioned that the law enforcement agencies under the Mohammadpur, Adabar and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police stations detained 152 criminals and recovered 18 firearms, 271 rounds of am-munitions, 172 types of various domestic and foreign weapons, one grenade and huge amount of narcotics.
After the preliminary interrogation, the detainees were handed over to the police stations con-cerned.
Since the fall of the Awami League government, Mohammadpur area has become one of the most crime-prone areas in the capital, with incidents of gunfire, robbery, theft, and armed assaults be-coming a regular phenomenon.
