The government will decide the fate of President Mohammed Shahabuddin Chuppu, whether he will remain in office or be removed, during discussions with the country’s different political parties.
The decision was taken during an Advisory Council meeting held with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus in the chair at his Tejgaon office in Dhaka on Thursday.
Environment adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, after emerging from the meeting, told reporters that the government has begun talks with the political parties over the fate of President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
A decision in this regard will be taken on the basis of consensus after discussing the matter with the country’s political parties, she said.
President Shahabuddin recently came under widespread criticism following his controversial comments over the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
A number of students on Tuesday staged a demonstration in front of Bangabhaban, the official residence and principal workplace of the president of Bangladesh, demanding immediate resignation of Shahabuddin.
Besides, students under the banner of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement also staged a demonstration in the capital Dhaka to meet the same demand.
