Religion for individuals, rights for all: Masud Sayeedi

Staff Reporter:

Masud Sayeedi, former chairman of Zia Nagar Upazila in Pirojpur also son of late Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, has said that while religion is personal, rights belong to everyone.

Drawing from Islamic teachings, he quoted Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who said that minorities are a trust in Muslim-majority countries and should not face obstacles in practising their faith.

He made the remarks during a visit to different Durga Puja Mandaps in Pirojpur Sadar Upazila on Friday.

Addressing the crowd, he accused the opposition party, Awami League, of inciting unrest during Durga Puja, alleging conspiracies of violence targeting Hindu homes.

During his visits, Sayeedi reassured Hindu devotees and temple priests, promising protection against any threats. “Jamaat-e-Islami would stand as vigilant guardians to prevent any terror attacks,” he said.

Sayeedi condemned the attempts to disrupt communal harmony, especially through misinformation spread on social media. He urged everyone to stay alert, emphasising that celebrating one’s religion peacefully is a fundamental right.

He also reassured that Jamaat-e-Islami would continue to ensure security during religious celebrations across Bangladesh.

During the visit, Masud Sayeedi was accompanied by key leaders from both Jamaat-e-Islami and local Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council members, reinforcing the commitment to religious harmony and mutual cooperation.
