The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Md Moinul Islam, has said that the reinvestigation into the murders of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi has been started.
Besides, police have resumed the probe into the gruesome murder of Tanvir Muhammad Tawqi in Narayanganj which remained halted.There is progress in the investigation of the murder case, said the IGP.
“Narayanganj was once known as a stronghold for godfathers and terrorism, but that is no longer the case,” he said on Thursday night during his visit to the Durga Puja mandap at the Ramakrishna Mission in Narayanganj.
He emphasized that no mischief or disorder during Durga Puja will be tolerated. “Law enforcement agencies are on high alert this year to ensure the peaceful celebration of the Durga Puja festival,” he added.
Urging citizens to be cautious about rumors, IGP Moinul Islam said: “At various times, false information is spread through social media to create unrest. Everyone must remain vigilant. In addition to the police, the army is also working to ensure the security of Durga Puja celebrations. Any attempts to cause disturbances will be stopped, and the culprits will be brought to justice.”
“We are committed to maintaining communal harmony, and everyone in Bangladesh can practice their religion safely,” IGP Mainul said.
He also warned that any attempt to disrupt the festival or create unrest will be met with swift and firm action from law enforcement.
“Whenever we receive information regarding incidents during Durga Puja, we take prompt action to address the issue,” he added.
The IGP urged the public to assist the police by reporting suspicious activities or incidents through the national emergency service 999, as well as local police stations, district control rooms, and police headquarters.
“We are celebrating Durga Puja in a new environment, made possible by the supreme sacrifices of students and the police.”
He later exchanged greetings with worshippers, accompanied by senior police officers and leaders from the Hindu community.
According to sources, this year, 214 Durga Puja mandaps have been set up in Narayanganj. The IGP visited several of them, including those in Amlapara, Sahapara, Ramakrishna Mission, and Baldaeb Jiur Akhra.
