A Dhaka court yesterday placed former secretary of the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat and Home Ministry Md Jahangir Alam on five days remand in connection with a case filed over killing of a teenager Abdul Motalib during the anti-discrimination student movement on August 4.
Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka, Belal Hossain passed the order in the case as Jahangir was turned-into the court with a 10-day remand prayer following his arrest from the city’s Gulshan area yesterday morn-ing.
A 14-year-old boy Motalib was shot dead while he was taking part in the student-people mass-uprising at the capital city’s Dhanmondi area on August 4 last.
His father Abdul Matin later filed a murder case against 176 persons including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the arrestee Jahangir Alam with Dhanmondi Police Station.
About Jahangir’s arrest, Rezaul Karim Mallick, additional commissioner of Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) source said that they arrested former secretary of security service division of the home ministry and EC Secretariat Jahangir Alam from the city’s Gulshan area around 11:30am yes-terday.
Mentioning that a number of criminal cases have been filed against Jahangir with different police sta-tions, he said, “We have so far got 10 cases against him and the number of cases may increase.”
