Staff Reporter:
The advisory council has given the final approval in principle to the draft of the Interim Government Ordinance 2024.
Earlier, the Department of Law and Justice drafted the Interim Government Ordinance, 2024, addressing issues such as the powers and duties of the Interim Government, rank and privileges of the chief adviser and other advisers, resignation procedures, and others.
The Cabinet Division published a circular in this regard on Thursday.
The Awami League government unleashed acts of repression and oppression and eventually went on a mass killing during the quota reform protest waged by the students under the banner of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said the circular.
At one point of the movement, people from all walks of life took to the streets across the country, protecting their lives and demanding justice against the government’s indulgence in a killing spree, read the circular.
The agitated students were forced to go for a one-point oust-government movement that led to an unceremonious fall of Sheikh Hasina-led 15-year rule on 5 August, it added.
Amid the evolving situation, the president dissolved the 12th National Parliament on 6 August 6, 2024.
And on 8 August, the chief adviser and other advisers took oath as members of the advisory council of the interim government.
