Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Mainul Hassan yesterday said police will bring all cases of police murder, arson attacks and looting of police stations under legal process.
“Limitation Act” is not applicable for any criminal act. Cases will be filed against all police murders, arson attacks and looting of weapons and other valuables in the police stations,” he said.
DMP commissioner said this while exchanging views with the leaders of the Crime Reporters’ Associa-tion of Bangladesh (CRAB) in his office.
With regard to the case of genocide and giving the names of journalists in the first Information Report (FIR), the DMP commissioner said, police will not go for indiscriminate arrest.
“It’s not obligatory for police to arrest anybody based on FIR. Any accused person will be arrested sub-ject to a proper investigation,” he assured.
DMP commissioner said, a collective investigation will be done and then action will be taken. Such in-structions have been given to all IOs, he added.
Referring to the loss of properties in the arson attacks and vandalism, he said a total of 177 police vehi-cles were damaged along with many infrastructures.
City’s traffic system has been restored and all police stations will be fully operative within next two weeks, Mainul hoped.
He said the traffic police are now working till late night and hopefully more progress will be made gradually.
Besides, the DMP commissioner said the police patrol and check post activities have started in many are-as.
Police force will be more active in preventing robbery and other criminal activities, he said adding that work is going on to strengthen the confidence of police personnel.
DMP commissioner said street agitations and road blocking by group of people to realize their demands are causing traffic congestion in the city.
Battery-driven auto-rickshaws are also creating trouble in smooth traffic management; he said adding police is working on deal with the problems.
Police are also trying to keep the streets clear from illegal parking and footpaths from hawkers as well.
“A comprehensive drive is underway to recover illegal weapons and arrest criminals… gradually the situation will improve,” he assured.
CRAB President Kamruzzaman Khan, General Secretary Md Sirajul Islam, CRAB executive committee members and DMP officials were present on the occasion.
