BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that a vested group is still conspiring to undermine the achievements of the student movement, which brought an unceremonious end to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 15-year rule.
Fakhrul made the observation while addressing a function held at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Friday afternoon.
“A vested group is attempting to foil the achievements of the student movement, but we must stay vigilant to thwart their efforts,” he said, calling upon his party’s rank and file to remain united.
Many people were repressed and suppressed and many of them were forced to flee the country during the fascist rule of Sheikh Hasina, he said.
The people from all walks of life took part in the oust government movement simultaneously from home and abroad to get rid of the situation, said the BNP leader.
“We will reach our goal if we can protect our achievements,” he said.
A reception was accorded to Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey, a Washington-based journalist of Bangladeshi origin, in recognition of his efforts to bring attention to Bangladesh’s contemporary political affairs in the US.
