Gazipur: Two garment workers died, and three others were injured after being run over by a truck in Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur on Tuesday.
The injured were admitted to a nearby hospital. Shahadat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Naozor Highway Police Station, confirmed the matter.
According to locals, during the lunch break, workers from Sterling Designs factory in the Palli Bidyut area of Kaliakoir were crossing the highway on foot. At that moment, a fast-moving cargo truck, head-ing toward North Bengal, ran over them.
Two workers died on the spot. Following the incident, outraged workers intercepted the truck, set it on fire, and blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway, bringing traffic to a standstill. Police and fire service per-sonnel arrived to bring the situation under control.
After two hours, traffic flow returned to normal, the OC said.
