Five more cases filed against Hasina

At least five new cases were filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and others in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Nilphamari, Madaripur and Feni on Wednesday night and Thursday.

In the first case, Sheikh Hasina and 67 people were sued over an attempt to murder a rickshaw puller named Md Sohag in Dhaka’s Mohakhali area.

Sohag’s father Nurul Islam applied for filing the case with Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arfatul Rakib’s court on Tuesday. The court accepted the statement of the plaintiff into cognizance and ordered the Banani police station to register the complaint as a first information report (FIR) on Thursday.

Among the notable defendants are former road transport minister Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud, former lawmaker Sheikh Fazlul Karim Salim, former mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Atiqul Islam, former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, and former DMP DB chief Harun Or Rashid.

Sohag was shot in front of the gate of International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) during the anti-discrimination student movement on 19 July.

In Rajshahi, a case was filed against 441 people, including former premier Sheikh Hasina, over the death of Mazir Uddin in 2015.

Mazir’s wife Masufa Begum, a resident of Maria village under Charghat upazila in the district, filed the case with Puthia Police Station on Wednesday night.

According to the case statement, a group of miscreants equipped with firearms and lethal weapons carried out an attack on a programme titled “Killing Day of Constitution and Democracy” organised by the then opposition 20-party alliance at Puthia on 5 January 2015, leaving Mazir Uddin dead on the spot.

Kabir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Puthia Police Station, said his force will take legal action in this regard.

In Nilphamari, Sheikh Hasina and 125 others were sued for carrying out vandalism and arson attacks at the offices of district BNP and its associate bodies.

The complaint was placed before Nilphamari Senior Judicial Magistrate Cognizance First Court.

The district Swechachasebak League acting president Abdus Salam made the complaint.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Shahin Kabir ordered Nilphamari Sadar Police Station to record the complaint as a first information report (FIR).

In Madaripur, a case was filed against Sheikh Hasina and 26 others on charge of complicity in murdering college student Dipta Dey.

In Feni, Sheikh Hasina, among 662 people, were sued for the murder of college student Mahbubul Hasan.

Mahmudul Hasan, the brother of the deceased, lodged the case with Sadar Model Police Station on Wednesday night.
