10 people die in road crashes

At least ten people died and scores injured in road crashes in Gopalganj and Narsingdi districts on Satur-day night and Sunday.
In Gopalganj, a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on Dhaka-Gopalganj highway in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj early Sunday left five people dead, said police.
The identities of the casualties could not be known immediately, said Kashiani police station’s Officer-in-Charge Md Jillur Rahman.
He said the accident occurred around 7:30am when the Dhaka-bound bus from Pirojpur collided with the truck coming from the opposite direction while crossing a lane in Majhigati area on the highway, leaving five dead on the spot and 25 others injured.
The injured were rushed to Upazila Health Complex and the bodies were taken to the police station, he said, adding that the bodies will be sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Details about the accident will be shared later, the OC added.
In Narsingdi, five people were killed and three others injured in a collision between a microbus and cov-ered van on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Dagaria in Narsingdi district on Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as Tanjina Jerin, 24, wife of Emran Mia, Quamrun Nahar, 35, son of Anwar Hossain, Sajit, 12, son of Anwar, Sabiha, 14, daughter of Saddam Hossain and Anwar Hossain, 45, son of Jakir Hossain.
The accident occurred around 9:30 pm in front of Narsingdi Regional Passport office when the microbus carrying eight people crashed into the covered van, leaving four people dead on the spot and four others injured, said Md Raihan, station officer of Narsingdi Fire Service.
The injured were taken to Narsingdi General Hospital where the doctors declared microbus driver Anwar dead around 4 am.
