Hasan, Nowfel sued in Ctg murder case

A murder case has been filed accusing former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud, education minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury Nowfel, former city mayor M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, former lawmaker Fazle Karim Chowdhury and 265 others in connection with the killing of youth Md Faruk.

Md Dulal, father of the victim, an employee of a furniture shop, hailed from Begumganj in Noakhali district, lodged the case with Panchlaish police station in the early hours of Thursday, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Santosh Kumar Chakma of the police station.

A total of 269 people, including Chattogram city Awami League General Secretary AJM Nasir Uddin, Chattogram City Corporation councillors Shaibal Das Sumon, Esrarul Hoque, Jahar Lal Hazari, Hasan Murad Biplob, Pulak Khastagir, Md Masum, Chattogram city Jubo League President Mahbubul Hoque Suman, General Secretary Didarul Alam Didar, Swechchhasebok League President Debashish Nath Debu, General Secretary Azizul Hoque Aziz, Chhatra League former general secretary Nurul Azim Rony, and Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Omar Hazzaz, were made accused in the case, said the OC.

Some 40 to 50 unidentified individuals were also made accused in the case, he added.

Faruk sustained bullet wounds while going to his workplace amid clashes centring the quota reform movement in the port city’s Muradpur area on 16 July.

He was rushed to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, said sources at the hospital.
