Flood situation worsens further in Lakshmipur

Lakshmipur: Flood situation in Lakshmipur has worsened further yesterday due to incessant overnight rainfall and rise in the water level of rivers, leaving hundreds of thousands people marooned.
People living in the district are rushing to different shelter centers and safer places.
Water levels in surrounding rivers of the district increased due to onrush of water from Noakhali district and persistent rainfall since Saturday evening, deteriorating the overall flood situation in Chandraganj, Hajipara, Charshahi, Dighli, Uttar Jaipur, Bangakhan, Mandari, Dattapara, Tewariganj, Shakchar and Charruhita unions under Sadar upazila of the district.
Deputy Commissioner Suraiya Jahan said, about 25,000 people have taken shelter at different centers while many people are going to shelter centers and other safe places.
The DC said Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has already provided Tk 10 lakh, 500 tonnes of rice, Tk 5 lakh for baby food and Tk 5 lakh for fodder.
“I have equally distributed the assistance and cash among five upazila nirbahi officers of the district.”
