About 11 lakh consumers remained without electricity in the flood-hit areas till Friday evening , according to Rural Electrification Development Board (REB).
Several areas of the country, including Feni, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Comilla, Cox’s Bazar, Chandpur, Brahmanbaria and Moulvibazar, have been flooded due to onrush of hills and heavy rainfalls.
In many places, the power supply has been snapped to avoid accidents due to flooding of power substations, submergence of electric meters, and damage to poles.
The power supply has been completely cut off in Feni.
So far, the financial loss of REB has been over Tk7.95 crore.
Feni REB Assistant General Manager Akash Kusum Barua said: “All 13 substations have been shut down, leaving 441,546 customers without power.”
Noakhali REB Senior General Manager Zakir Hossain said that about 250,000 customers are without power, and the water inside their office is waist-high.
Mahbubul Alam, assistant general manager of the Lakshmipur Palli Bidyut Samiti, noted that damaged transmission lines and poles have left about 40,000 customers without electricity.
Makbul Hossain, general manager of the Brahmanbaria REB, reported that 15,000 customers have been passing days without power due to water entering meters and damage to electric poles.
ABM Mizanur Rahman, general manager of the Moulvibazar REB, stated that power connections for 42,000 customers have been suspended.
The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) continues to supply electricity in Sylhet, Comilla, and other regions. Still, many of its customers also lack power due to the flood.
