Prince urges state recognition for the martyrs in student protests

Staff Reporter:

BNP Joint General Secretary Syed Emran Saleh Prince visited the houses of those martyred in the movement to oust the autocratic Awami League regime in Sherpur’s Jhenaigati upazila on Friday.

He visited the graves of three martyrs, prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls, condoled with the family members and provided financial assistance on behalf of the party to the victim’s families.

The BNP leader visited houses of three martyrs: student Sardul Ashish Sourov, madrasa student Ashraful Islam Alhaj and garment worker Shahadat Hossain.

He later took part in two street rallies.

“Martyrdom of over a thousand students and other civilians ensured the liberation of the country from autocratic rule on 5 August. However, this was only the first step on the path to achieving complete victory against injustice. A long road still lies ahead, with the ousted cabinet members conspiring from within and outside the country,” the BNP leader warned.

The students and general people would not let any conspiracy to succeed, he warned Awami League leaders.

Every death during the student-led mass movement would be tried in courts, and none will be spared, he said adding those hiding abroad would be brought back to the country to face justice, in a veiled reference at Sheikh Hasina.

He said the state has to take responsibility for the financial well-being of the martyrs’ poverty-stricken families, and accord due gallantry recognition on the martyrs.

BNP is doing all it can for providing the medical expenses for those injured in the movement, and giving donations to the martyrs’ families, Prince noted.
