Steps taken to ensure security of minorities: Shakhawat

Staff Reporter:

Home Affairs Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hussain on Thursday said the interim government has taken the highest possible measures for ensuring the protection of minorities.

“No one will be spared if he or she assaults or tortures any people from minority groups. Legal action will be taken quickly. Optimum steps have been taken for the security of minorities,” he said, adding police stations along with law enforcement agencies have started working.

The home adviser said this at a meeting with International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Bangladesh at his office at Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital, said a press release.

Noting that Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony, Shakhawat said, “I have grown up together with people of all faiths and there were no differences”.

“We don’t want any clash, conflict and violence. We believe in peace,” he added.

ISKCON Bangladesh, including its President Satya Ranjan Baroi (Shudhasatha Gobinda Das), General Secretary Charu Chandra Das Brahmachari (Chandi Das Bala), Treasurer Jotyshar Goura Das (Joty Prokash Ray), Public Relations Division Assistant Director Bimal Kumar Ghosh (Bimla Prasad Das), Food for Life Director Amani Krishna Das, Executive Committee Member Sudarshan Jagannath Das (Sukanta Chakroborty) and ISKCON National Crisis Committee Member Jugdharma Das (Jubraj Gop) were present at the meeting.

In the meeting, ISKCON Bangladesh President Satya Ranjan Baroi presented the history of the organisation and described its various activities.

He requested the home adviser to take adequate security measures for minorities on a priority basis.

Besides, Baroi placed an eight-point recommendation including formulation of laws for protecting minorities, formation of monitoring cells, formation of a minority commission, ensuring round-the-clock security of temples.

The home adviser assured the ISKCON Bangladesh delegation of providing his utmost support to this end.
