Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said a comprehensive road law will be passed soon in the parliament to check the deaths including damages caused by road accidents in the country.
He made the remark while addressing as the chief guest at the biennial national rally of Nirapad Sarak Chai at Shilpakala Academy in the capital on Saturday.
The home minister said the responsibilities of all including driver-assistant, transport owner and transport agencies have been analysed in the new law. Everything, including the responsibility, type of punishment for negligence, was cleared in the road law.
Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal also said the road accident has become a national problem in the country. In 2023, some 5,024 people lost their lives in 5,495 road crashes. To resolve this crisis, there should be an overall initiative. The government has declared National Road Safety Day on 22 October and has been observing it due to demand from different organisations and Nirapad Sarak Chai.
