New Health and Family Welfare Minister Professor Dr Samanta Lal Sen has focused on improving healthcare services through adopting different updated and effective measures in the health sector.
“Zero tolerance policy will be maintained for rooting out corruption from every sphere of healthcare sector,” he made the comments while exchanging views with officials and employees at his ministry yes-terday, an official release said.
After taking the oath as health minister, Dr Lal assumed office this morning and subsequently he met officials and employees of the health and family welfare ministry.
Later, the minister exchanged greetings and views with journalists of different media outlets.
Dr Samanta said, “Prime Minister has given me prime responsibilities through appointing as health min-ister . . . she instructed me for improving healthcare services across the country. I will perform my du-ties with utmost sincerity.”
“I will visit hospitals, healthcare centres and clinics across the country and I will try my best for improv-ing healthcare facilities,” he added.
On January 11, Dr Samanta Lal Sen, the former coordinator of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, was appointed as the minister of Health and Family Welfare. He has been as-signed this role as a technocrat minister in the new government.
In 2018, the Bangla Academy awarded Dr Samanta Lal Sen an honourary fellowship for his special con-tribution to medical service.
He was born in Habiganj district on November 24 in 1949 and he passed his MBBS from the Chittagong Medical College in 1973.
In 1980, he obtained a Diploma in Specialized Surgery from Vienna, Austria.
Later, he received further training in surgery in Germany and England.
