Staff Reporter:

Metro Rail services will commence at the Karwan Bazar and Shahbag stations from December 31 onwards.

With this, the country’s first metro rail will stop at all stations along the Uttara-Motijheel-Uttara route.

However, there will be no changes to the current schedule, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited’s (DMTCL) Managing Director M A N Siddique confirmed the matter in a press conference at the Metro Rail headquarters in the capital on Thursday.

He stated that the train operation hours would also be extended sooner.

Currently, the metro rail operates from 7 am to 12 pm at 14 stations on the Uttara-Motijheel-Uttara route.

The metro rail will be able to carry 60 thousand passengers per hour and half a million passengers per day and one train will arrive at each station every four minutes.

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been constructing the metro rail and providing soft loans to the project. The JICA gave Taka 19,500 crore for the project.
