None of arsonists to be spared: DMP

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman yesterday said that the police have arrested almost all the perpetrators of every arson attacks on trains and buses.
“None of the arson attackers on train that killed four innocent passengers will be spared,” he told the journalists when visiting the injured passengers of the train at Dhaka Medical College (DMH) Hospital here this afternoon.
Habibur Rahman said, “The arson attacks are being carried out hours before and during the hartal and blockade programs. We are trying to identify and arrest those who torched the train.”
He said that people of a political party have been destroying people’s properties and killing innocent people in the name of hartal and blockade, adding, “Police initially believed that this vandalism (on Mo-hanganj Express) is a part of that activities. Those who are blocking roads, those who are enforcing har-tal (strike) doing it. Those who had committed such incidents earlier have also been arrested.”
Habibur Rahman said that those who committed such heinous activities like vandalism, arson attacks, are a part of these hartal and blockades, which was a part of the central decision.
At least four passengers, including a woman and her three-year-old son, were burnt alive as the miscre-ants set fire to three coaches of Mohanganj Express near Tejgaon Railway Station area in the city yester-day morning.
He said that different police units including DMP, Railways, CID have been working to identify the per-petrators of this sabotage.
DMP Additional Police Commissioners Dr Khandkar Muhid Uddin and Mohammad Haroon Or Rashid were accompanied with the DMP commissioner.
