Dhaka’s rail connection with most of the country has been disrupted as the Dhaka-bound Titas commuter train locomotive derailed after a crane collided with it in Tejgaon this afternoon.
The accident occurred as the crane, engaged in the Dhaka Elevated Expressway project in the area, was on the rail track while the train was passing by, sources said.
A rescue team from Bangladesh Railway has been engaged in the rescue operation, Mohammad Masud Sarwar, manager of Kamalapur Railway Station confirmed to the Daily Sun.
Several people have been reportedly injured in the accident.
“The accident occurred around 5:00 pm. Dhaka’s rail link has been halted with the majority of the country, except Dhaka-Narayanganj and Dhaka-Padma Bridge route,” said Mohammad Masud Sarwar.
No train is either being able to leave Kamalapur Railway Station or enter the Biman Bandar railway station, he added.
