Price of LPG gas increased again

Staff Reporter:

The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been hiked yesterday. Retail consumers will have to pay an additional Tk 1.91 per kg of LPG.
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the new price, saying that retail con-sumers will now have to play Tk 1,404 (VAT included) for a 12 kg cylinder of LPG. The previous price of a 12 kg LPG cylinder was Tk 1,381.
LPG price has increased to Tk 117.02 per kg for the month of December, from Tk 115.09 in November, said BERC.
Prices of other LPG cylinders – from 5.5 kg to 45 kg – will go up rationally, Md Nurul Amin, chairman of BERC, said on Sunday at a press briefing at the BERC office in Dhaka.
As per the BERC decision, the price of “auto gas” (LPG used for motor vehicles) also increased to Tk Tk 64.43 per litre (including VAT) from Tk 63.36 per liter.
The price of LPG, marketed by the state-owned LP Gas Company, will remain the same as it is locally produced with a market share of less than 5 percent.
BERC officials said LPG price will witness an increase in the local market due to increase in the prices of Saudi CP (contract price).
Bangladeshi LPG operators normally import their products from the Middle-eastern market on the basis of Saudi CP.
LPG witnessed the highest price at Tk 1,498 (per 12 kg cylinder) in the local market in February this year following the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in February last year.
