The Election Commission (EC) has instructed the Ministry of Home Affairs to transfer Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of all the police stations across the country to hold the 12th national election in a free, fair and credible manner.
A letter signed by EC’s Deputy Secretary Mizanur Rahman was served to the Senior Secretary of the Public Security Division of the ministry on Friday.
“The EC has decided to transfer OCs of all police stations across the country in phases for holding the national election fairly and transparently. To implement this directive, in the initial phase, police station officers-in-charge who have served at their current location for more than six months should be transferred to another district or police station by December 5. The Ministry of Home Affairs has been urged to take necessary measures in this regard,” read the letter.
The 12th National Parliamentary election will be held on 7 January while the nomination papers submitted in the stipulated time will be scrutinised between December 1 and 4.
The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is 17 December and the candidates are allowed to appeal against the Returning Officers (ROs) decisions between December 6 and 15.
The ROs will distribute electoral symbols among the candidates on 18 December and the candidates will also be allowed to conduct their electioneering from 8 am on 18 December 18 to 5 January.
