Jhalakathi: BNP vice-chairman Barrister Muhammad Shahjahan Omar, Bir Uttam, submitted his nomi-nation online to the returning officer on Awami League ticket for Jhalakath-1 (Rajapur-Kathalia) con-stituency for the 12th Jatiya Sangsad election.
Shajahan Omar at a press conference confirmed the matter of his nomination form submission at his chamber at Karwan Bazar in the capital yesterday afternoon as he also announced his resignation from all positions in Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
His chamber lawyers said Shahjahan Omar met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official Ganabhaban residence yesterday afternoon.
Rajapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer and assistant returning officer Farhana Yasmin confirmed the matter.
Shahjahan Omar was elected parliament member from BNP in 1979, 1991, 1996 and 2001.
He served as state minister for law and state minister for land during BNP tenure.
