Bangladesh cricket superstar Shakib Al Hasan visited the Awami League president’s Dhanmondi party office on Thursday evening to meet with party leaders.
Shakib submitted nomination forms for Dhaka-10, Magura-1, and Magura-2 constituencies.
Insiders from the party revealed that Shakib expressed keen interest in securing the Awami League nomination this time. Consequently, he obtained three nomination forms, one for Dhaka and two for his birthplace, Magura.
On Thursday morning, the Awami League nomination board, chaired by party President Sheikh Hasina, finalized party candidates for Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions, but the names are yet to be declared.
The meeting will continue until Sunday to complete the party nomination selection process by Saturday.
During this time, candidates are making concerted efforts to meet with Awami League senior leaders to seek their blessings. Like other candidates, Shakib Al Hasan also met with Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday evening.
Awami League leaders speculate that Shakib is likely to receive the party nomination for Dhaka-10, as the current MP, Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, is a business leader with limited connections to the people of this constituency.
On the other hand, Saifuzzaman Shikhor and Biren Shikder, both ruling party lawmakers, have strongholds in Magura-1 and Magura-2. However, the final decision will be made by the party nomination board by Saturday.
