3 BNP activists confess torching BRTC bus

Three activists of BNP yesterday gave confessional statements in a case lodged over torching of a BRTC double-decker bus in the capital’s Mirpur area on November 14.
The three accused are- Hafizur Rahman, 35, Shahidul Islam, 20, and Shamim, 45.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim recorded their statements under section 164 as police produced the three before the court as they wanted to give confessional statements. The court after that sent the trio to jail.
According to the case documents, the accused ignited fire inside the bus as it was stuck in traffic in Mirpur-10 intersection. A couple of seats got burnt in the incident. Police detained one from the scene and later managed to arrest two others.
Police later filed the case under special powers act.
