A court here yesterday convicted and sentenced nine leaders and activist of BNP, including Jubo Dal Organizing Secretary Ishaq Sarkar and his elder brother Yakub Sarkar, to three-year jail in a case lodged for carrying out subversive activities in 2013.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Asheq Imam pronounced the judgment in the case filed under speedy trial act. The court also fined them Taka five thousand each.
The other convicts are – Arman, Anwar Hossain Roki, Abdur Razzak Mintu, Rashed, Pervej, Sohel and Nader. Of the nine, Yakub Sarkar was in jail and produced before the court for the judgment.
The court also issued arrest warrant against the fugitive convicts.
Police filed the case in May, 2013, for carrying out subversive activities in Bongshal area in the capital.
Meanwhile, a separate court yesterday sent five BNP men including former Noakhali-4 lawmaker Md Shahjahan and Kustia-2 lawmaker Mohammad Ahsan Habib Linkon to jail in another subversion case filed with Bhatara Police Station.
The other three accused are Mohammad Belal Ahmed, Mohammad Shamimur Rahman Shamim and Monirul Haque.
