Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Health Affairs Dr S M Ziauddin Hyder was accorded a reception today for his remarks on Bangladesh’s health system at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The Jhalakathi Press Club and Jhalakathi Journalists’ Union hosted the reception at the Press Club hall yesterday.

Dr Ziauddin expressed gratitude to the organisers and said, “This year’s UNGA session was significant for the country.”

Outlining plans to transform the health system, he said, “We want to bring changes to the health system. We want to diagnose diseases before they occur. To this end, we want to prioritise primary healthcare.”

He said he had presented plans to overhaul Bangladesh’s health system at the UN session and discussed how to respond to infectious disease outbreaks.

“Emphasis on preventive healthcare is necessary to bring the desired changes to the country’s health system,” he added.

Speaking about the future of children, he said the benefits of the country’s progress and achievements must reach children to help move the country forward.

Officials from the district administration, local BNP leaders and journalists were present at the reception.
