Staff reporter:
Water Resources Minister and BNP Joint Secretary General Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee yesterday said road marches and long marches will not be allowed to create unrest in society.
The minister made the remarks while attending an introductory meeting of the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal at Charshahi Titarkandi area in Chandraganj upazila.
The government has undertaken many development activities in just six months since assuming office, he said.
Despite this, unrest is being created in society through road marches and long marches instead of extending cooperation to the government, he said.
Anee said the people of the country had endured great hardship for 17 years and could not lead normal lives with their families.
Now, unrest is being created in society again through road marches and long marches, he said.
Referring to the opposition party, he said, “The people of the country do not like your long marches and road marches.”
Addressing party leaders and activists, the water resources minister asked them to get involved in the development activities of the country.
He said everyone must work together to prevent the spread of drugs in the country. The government has adopted a ‘zero tolerance’ policy on the issue.
Anyone involved in drugs or other antisocial activities and attempting to create unrest would not be spared, regardless of how powerful they were, he said.
To this end, unity must be maintained through wholehearted cooperation, he said, adding that everyone must work together to further strengthen the foundations of democracy.
Among others, BNP leader and Bangladesh Football Federation Vice-President Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy, Upazila BNP President Belal Hossain, District Mohila Dal President Sabera Anwar and General Secretary Fatema Akter Sumi spoke at the meeting.
