Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said BNP itself has fallen into a ditch as it tried to oust the AL government.
“BNP itself has foiled its own movement. While attempting to put us in a ditch, they themselves have fallen into the ditch,” he told a press conference at AL’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office here.
Quader said the BNP men waged a movement but they are now foiling their own movement.
“The BNP has fallen into its own trap…BNP itself is destabilising the situation but it is placing complaints to foreigners against us. They are staging various dramas. The director of those dramas is Tariq Rahman,” he said.
The AL general secretary said the senior BNP leaders, who have been arrested so far, could not avoid the responsibility as BNP killed a cop, attacked journalists and a hospital, set fire to buses and burnt a sleeping bus helper alive.
“Can BNP leaders, including its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, avoid the responsi-bility of those? If they are brought to justice, none will be able to avoid the responsibility. These misdeeds and terrorist acts are being carried out as per directives of the BNP leaders,” he said, add-ing that a Canadian court declared BNP as a terrorist organisation.
Quader said the BNP staged a drama on October 28 last and threatened to oust the AL govern-ment. BNP brought a fake adviser of US President Joe Biden here to topple the government, he added.
AL presidium member Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Bir Bikram, and Dhaka South City AL president Abu Ahmad Mannafi were, among others, present.
