PM opens metro rail’s Agargaon-Motijheel part

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday inaugurated the second phase of the much-desired metro rail service from Agargaon to Motijheel, connecting the capital with Uttara.

The premier inaugurated the metro train movement towards Motijheel station by waving a green flag at Agargaon station this afternoon and there, she also signed on green flags.

Later, she cut the ribbon and got on the train along with the high officials within the government that started the journey towards Motijheel at about 02.40 pm.

While expressing her feelings during the opening ride, Sheikh Hasina said her government has undertaken the project so everyone can travel easily, save working hours, get relief from traffic congestion and benefit economically.

During her opening ride, she expressed her complete satisfaction with the swift implementation of the metro rail projects.

She also extended her gratitude to Japan, JICA, development partners, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges as well as all the people and workers involved in the works of the metro rail project.

The train carrying the prime premier minister reached Motijheel station at about 03.06 pm. After arriving at Motijheel, the premier also inaugurated the construction work of MRT Line-5 (Northern route), which will be a 20-km line from Hemayetpur to Bhatara via Gabtoli, Mirpur-10, Gulshan.

The deadline for completing the project with the cost of Tk 41,239 crore is 2028.

The commuters will be able to take the train from Uttara to Motijheel from November 5 and the metro rail will stop at Farmgate, Secretariate and Motijheel stations initially on the Agargaon-Motijheel section.

On the Uttara-Motijheel route, the metro will run daily from 7:30 am to 11:30 am from November 5 and it will be stopped on the Motijheel-Agargaon route after 11:30 am while it will operate up to 8:30 pm in Uttara-Agargaon section.

The prime minister inaugurated the first phase of the first-ever metro rail from Uttara to Agargaon on December 28.
