Attorney General Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal yesterday reaffirmed firm commitment to providing necessary legal and institutional support to the International Anti-Corruption Coordina-tion Centre (IACCC) to recover money siphoned off from Bangladesh and bring it back to the coun-try.
The attorney general made the commitment as a high-level legal delegation from the IACCC called on him at his office yesterday morning.
The IACCC delegation, led by David Townsend of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, comprised Louise Bannon, Governance Adviser at the British High Commission; Alex Hodd, Senior Investiga-tor at the UK National Crime Agency; Raihan Rahman, Political and Legal Analyst at the British High Commission; and an international asset recovery specialist from Singapore.
During the meeting, they discussed existing legal challenges in recovering assets held outside Bangladesh and money siphoned off from the country and bringing them back, as well as possible legal and institutional cooperation to address those challenges.
The IACCC delegation sought the attorney general’s cooperation in removing existing legal barriers to international asset recovery.
