Prime Minister’s wife and Ziaur Rahman Foundation Vice-President Zubaida Rahman on Thursday called for taking the Zia Memorial Library to every village.
At the same time, she called for building the habit of reading books among children and juveniles, saying, “If the habit of reading books is developed among children, they will acquire values, justice, honesty, dedication, and tolerance. Their tendency to respect others will also grow.”
Zubaida Rahman said this while inaugurating “Zia Memorial Book Fair-2026” as the chief guest at the Bangla Academy premises in the city.
The central committee of the Zia Memorial Library organised the fair, marking the 48th anniversary of the BNP, with the aim of promoting and disseminating books written on the policies, ideals, and life of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
Zubaida also expressed hope that children will develop patience and find ways to establish them in society by developing a book-reading habit.
She said, “Books written on the lives of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia contain stories of their struggles, sacrifices, perseverance, patience, courage, and patriotism. The books will guide the children and youths on the way of their lives.”
At the end of her speech, she recited a portion of her poem “Tumi Nirbhik” dedicated to the memory of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
Zubaida expressed her sincere thanks to the organisers for arranging the book fair and wished overall success. Later, she officially inaugurated the book fair and visited stalls.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Abdus Salam presided over the event while Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) central Organising Secretary Amanullah Aman moderated the event. Shilpi Munsi Mohammad Rezaul Hossain Titu gave the welcome speech.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof ABM Obaidul Islam, National Prof Mahbub Ullah, BNP Standing Committee member Forhad Halim Donar, Research Officer to the Prime Minister Abdus Sattar Patwari, National Press Club President Hasan Hafij, JCD central President Rakibul Islam Rakib, DU Chhatra Dal President Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahos and General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon, among others, were present.
