US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen has highlighted the role of American technolo-gy and engineering in supporting Bangladesh’s railway connectivity and infrastructure develop-ment during a visit to key railway facilities in the country’s north.
Christensen visited Bangladesh Railway’s Central Locomotive Workshop in Parbatipur, where Bangladeshi technicians maintain US-made locomotives used for passenger and freight transporta-tion across the country, according to a press release issued by the US Embassy in Dhaka yesterday.
During the visit, the ambassador toured the workshop and inspected a locomotive manufactured by US company Progress Rail.
He also interacted with Bangladeshi railway professionals responsible for maintaining the locomo-tives and learned about their work in keeping the fleet operational.
Christensen later travelled by train to Saidpur, where he spoke with passengers before visiting the historic Saidpur Railway Workshop and Museum.
The embassy said Bangladesh Railway’s purchase of 40 Progress Rail locomotives demonstrates how US exports and technology can contribute to Bangladesh’s infrastructure and development priorities.
It said the ambassador’s visit also highlighted the “practical and enduring value” of expanding trade and commercial cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States.
