Kishoreganj: A local Jubo League leader has been hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj district.
The deceased was identified as Al Amin Saikat, general secretary of Bhairab municipality unit of Jubo League and a former councilor of the municipality.
The attackers waylaid Saikat in the Tin Patti area of the town around midnight on Sunday when he was on his way home.
They hacked him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rescued Saikat and took him to a private hospital. As his condition deteriorated, doctors re-ferred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
He died while undergoing treatment at the hospital around 2:00am on Monday, police said.
Officer-in-Charge of Bhairab Police Station Mahbub Rahman said police have launched a drive to identify and arrest those involved in the killing.
